Um…Where’s The Phone Number, Aly?
I didn’t forget to list my phone number. The simplest explanation is that I do not offer phone support. “But EVERYONE ELSE offers phone support, Aly??” Yeah, well – I’m not everyone else. I’m a one-woman operation. I can’t answer 52 calls from solicitors & “I just need 5 minutes to pick your brain…” guys throughout the day and still deliver the results my clients expect. It can’t be done. And taking care of my clients is always my number one priority.
While everyone else has you wasting your valuable time responding to a myriad of voice prompts and pressing a series of numbers long enough to launch a nuclear missile, only to end up having to leave a voice mail anyway, I’m working to help make small business websites prettier and more search engine friendly. And I’m probably doing so at 1:00 am. Like most night owls, I do my best work between 2:00 pm and 2:00 am.

Time management is not the only reason I don’t offer phone support. It is in the best interest of my clients that all communication be done in writing. I’ve spent thousands of hours providing phone consultation and phone support throughout my career. I’m all too familiar with the likelihood of misunderstanding or inadvertently forgetting the information exchanged throughout the course of a telephone call…especially a long consultation call.
That’s why I have elected to communicate with my clients via e-mail or instant messenger service almost exclusively. That way there is always written documentation of all communication. It reduces the chance that something can be misunderstood, mistakenly overlooked or unintentionally forgotten – by either of us.
After all, how many times have you hung up from a long telephone conversation and thought to yourself, “Wait, what did she say again? I should have written that down…” Well, now you don’t have to worry about that. You’re welcome. :)
